What you need to know about Botox Treatment

As you may know, Botox is a common cosmetic treatment that helps patients to reduce stubborn lines and wrinkles from their face. Over time, and due to sun exposure and simple aging, many patients begin to notice lines on their forehead, around the eyes or lips, or even on the neck that didn’t used to be there. While often patients turn to the cosmetic counter at their favorite department store first, the creams and serums frequently leave patients feeling disappointed and frustrated. While the topical creams rarely offer the right results, Botox is injected under the skin to relax the facial muscles and smooth out the wrinkles.

Dr. Ron Prussick and his team at The Washington Dermatology Center have helped many men and women who want to reverse the signs of aging and feel more confident in their skin. With the Botox treatment, Dr. Prussick can improve common complaint areas such as the “11s” between the eyes, crow’s feet on the outside of the eyes, and lines across the forehead, around the mouth, and on the neck.

Botox is a quick and relatively painless procedure. Prior to the treatment, your dermatologist will ask some questions about your medical history and any medications that you’re taking. You may be advised to stop taking blood thinners for several days before treatment. The Botox is injected into the skin using a very thin needle, and typically, a very small amount is injected into one treatment area. The number of injections needed varies from person to person, depending on the depth of the wrinkles and number of areas being treated. The procedure is performed in the doctor’s office and it typically only takes a few minutes.

Following the treatment, patients can get back to their normal day, although they will be advised not to massage the treated areas. Most patients begin to notice a decrease in the wrinkles and an improvement in their appearance within a few days after the treatment. The results usually last for approximately four to six months. It’s important to note that Botox is not a permanent treatment. Patients must maintain the results with follow up appointments, as needed. However, some patients report that the effects last longer after subsequent treatment sessions.
