Details about Botox treatment in Frederick MD that you need to know

Botox has become one of the most recognized of all cosmetic treatments to date. It was the first of many injectable solutions that paved the way for men and women to fight the signs of aging without costly, complex surgery. Although Botox is regularly used in our offices in Frederick and Rockville, MD, we recognize that this treatment may not be right for every person. Under the care of Dr. Prussick or one of his highly trained associates, you can feel confident that you will achieve your desired result through customized cosmetic treatment.

Botox and paralysis

Botox has been used in both medical and cosmetic treatments. This purified solution is injected into muscles on the face, neck, or other parts of the body, blocking signals from the brain that cause muscles to contract. We use facial muscles daily throughout our lives. In time, many of these muscles remain in a state of semi-contraction, and lines and wrinkles are noticed around the eyes and on the forehead. Treating muscles with Botox leads to their relaxation so that overlying skin can smooth out.

Some have described the effects of Botox as paralysis. Jokes have been made about the “frozen face” of this cosmetic solution. When applied by your trained, experienced technician, Botox does not paralyze the muscles. At Washington Dermatology Center, our focus is on the achievement of beautiful, natural results. This means that, while Botox will limit the movement of muscles on the forehead and around the eyes, it will not prevent you from expressing emotion with your face. Furthermore, because the effects of Botox naturally wear off over the course of about four months, there is no risk of permanency.

What Botox can and cannot do

Some people wonder, since Botox seems to be used mostly on the upper third of the face, if this cosmetic solution can decrease the appearance of a deep groove in the forehead. What is important to consider with this type of problem is the overall state of the skin and the location of the groove. In cases where a deep groove is present, but the eyes are not greatly affected by sagging skin, Botox may produce the desired effect. Our goal is to address wrinkles without risking the increase of other signs of age, such as drooping eyelids. In a consultation with Dr. Prussick or one of his experienced staff, the most suitable form of treatment will be easily determined.

By working with our experienced team, you can achieve your aesthetic goals. Contact us in Frederick or Rockville to schedule your visit.
