Potomac, MD reviews mole removal cost and expectations

Moles are common. In fact, it is believed that almost everyone has at least one mole, and most adults have anywhere from 10 to 40 moles on their body. Moles are skin cells called melanocytes that grow in clusters to create a darker pigmentation. They can appear anywhere on the body and are not harmful—until they begin to change, which may indicate skin cancer. However, most moles are just an aesthetic issue for some, especially when they develop on the face. This is why Dr. Ron Prussick of Potomac, MD reviews with his patients the cost and expectations of mole removal.

Mole removal can be done in one of two ways: excision with stitches and excision with cauterization. These surgical procedures can be done at the office of Dr. Ron Prussick and are done under local anesthetics for patient comfort.

Excision with cauterization is done by shaving down the mole. This can result in bleeding which is then cauterized using a special instrument or topical solution. For excision with stitches, a mole is removed and then the area is stitched up to facilitate healing. These are the two methods of removal available at Washington Dermatology Center.

Dr. Ron Prussick reviews with his patients the advantages of removing moles and he will discuss the cost necessary to do so. This varies based on many factors, so it is essential that patients contact our practice to book an evaluation and consultation appointment to get a more accurate quote of the cost. Some medical insurance companies may also cover a portion of the cost for moles that are not being removed specifically for aesthetics and instead for concerns of skin cancer.

If you live in or around the Potomac, MD area and are interested in finding out more regarding mole removal costs and expectations, contact the team of Washington Dermatology Center today to speak with Dr. Ron Prussick and his team of professionals.
