Dr. Ron Prussick and the team at Washington Dermatology Center are committed to helping Rockville area patients with diagnosis and treatment of many skin conditions, including psoriasis.

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease caused by an overactive immune system. Several different types of psoriasis may occur, and a proper diagnosis ensures appropriate and effective treatment. The primary types of psoriasis include:

  • Pustular psoriasis
  • Guttate psoriasis
  • Inverse psoriasis
  • Erythrodermic psoriasis

The cause of psoriasis is unknown. Patients who struggle with this skin disorder know how uncomfortable it can be and how embarrassing it is. Flare-ups can be triggered by factors such as stress, trauma, or infections. Abnormalities in the immune system seem to trigger episodes as well. Dr. Ron Prussick can help in providing an accurate diagnosis of the condition, and then determine the best possible treatment.

There are varying levels of psoriasis and the severity of it will determine the most appropriate treatment. Psoriasis treatment may include one or more of the following options:

  • Biologic medications (administered through injections or IV infusion)
  • Systemic medications (oral)
  • Phototherapy treatments
  • Topical medications applied to the skin
  • Laser therapies

An initial examination and proper diagnosis is crucial to starting the process of treatment. The severity of the condition as well as previously attempted treatments must be considered when determining a treatment plan that will work. An evaluation is done in our practice to get patients on the path to controlling the condition.

Dr. Ron Prussick and his team of professionals encourage people in the Rockville area to visit his practice for a thorough evaluation and to discuss the benefits of a variety of treatments to address mild, moderate, or severe psoriasis for patients of all ages. He welcomes new patients to his state-of-the-art practice and can assist patients in controlling their condition.
