Treat rosacea redness with IPL near Bethesda
Rosacea symptoms currently affect millions of people in our country. Sometimes, this condition is mistaken for acne due to the presence of redness and irritation. Additional symptoms, however, include skin sensitivity, eye irritation, and exacerbation by climate and other factors. At Washington Dermatology Center, we believe the best way to treat rosacea redness, and other symptoms, is with personalized care. Our patients from Bethesda and other areas around Frederick and Rockville may find that their best option for clearer, healthier skin is IPL therapy.
How IPL works
IPL therapy is Intense Pulsed Light. This technology has been extensively studied. Individuals treated with this type of therapy tend to experience a reduction in dilated blood vessels, acne-like marks, and redness.
IPL achieves predictable results in a safe manner. The multiple wavelengths of light are non-ablative to the skin, meaning that they will not remove cells on the surface. When targeted by pulses of light, the blood vessels in question absorb energy. The heating of these blood vessels seals them and makes them less visible. The secondary effect comes from the stimulation in new collagen growth. Collagen is a vital substance that helps support smooth skin. Over time and a number of treatments, IPL delivers promising results.
What to expect during treatments
IPL treatments are provided by Dr. Prussick or one of his trained staff. Treatment begins with the application of a gel substance, which cools and numbs the skin. We slowly move the IPL device across the skin, allowing pulses of light to deliver powerful energy to the affected vessels. Light energy is absorbed into the dermis and deeper tissues, producing a warm sensation. As pulses of light hit the skin, there may also be a slight snapping sensation.
